How do you know it is the same American fare and not just a cheaper flight?
We match the marketing carrier, the flight numbers, the dates, the origin and destination, the cabin, and the fare brand. A cheaper connection at a different time of day is a different product, not a drop on your ticket. A detected drop stays a candidate until a person has confirmed the comparison is genuinely like-for-like.
My American confirmation says Main Cabin. Is that the same as standard economy?
Yes — Main Cabin is American's name for its standard economy brand, and Basic Economy is the restricted one below it. That single line on the confirmation is what we read, because the cabin on its own no longer settles the question: restricted "basic" style bundles now appear above economy at some carriers.
